I am thankful for the invitation by
God to be specific in prayer. Yesterday the pastor of the church we attended
was preaching from Philippians 4 – “don’t be anxious for anything but in
everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be
made known to God.”
I know when I ask my kids for their
birthday or Christmas wish list I will get specific requests. There are times
when I am able to fulfill that wish. There are times when I can’t find it or am
unable to purchase it. But I love that my children feel the freedom to ask.
The Bible says that God is a way
better parent than I could ever hope to be. According to Matthew 7:11 if I, even
though I’m human and evil,
know how to give good gifts to my
children, “how much more
will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” What assurance
to know that the perfect Parent has every resource at His disposal – and also the perfect
wisdom to know if what I am asking for is for my best.
I have the invitation to pray – with specifics
and to trust my Abba with the answer!
