Today I am thankful for my reading
glasses. Ever since I was 12 I have had to wear corrective lenses. For many
years that took the form of glasses and then I gladly switched over to contact
lenses.
When I learned of the type of contacts
you could wear day and night, I was in line to get mine. I’ll never forget
that first night – I crawled into bed and could still see clearly even with the
lights turned off! I went many years wearing this type of contacts and even got
to the point where I forgot how blind I truly was without them.
Then a few years ago I went in for an
eye exam and mentioned to the doctor that I was probably going to need a new prescription
because I was having a little bit of trouble seeing. Nothing big, I assured
him, but a bit annoying.
As he concluded the exam he told me
that everything looked great and that my prescription wasn’t any different. I
was astonished and asked what was going on then. He chuckled a bit as he said he
didn’t want to offend me but it was probably because I had hit that certain age
when things change and I would need – yup, you guessed it – reading glasses.
Once I got over the thought of having
to wearing reading glasses and accepted that it would make my reading life much
easier, I purchased a pair. I was surprised at the difference it made… I no longer
needed to squint to read. Yay!! And because I seem to always put them down and
forget where I put them, I actually have 4 or 5 pairs strategically placed
around the house.
Yes, I am thankful for my (several pairs
of) reading glasses.
