Day 7
~ Today I am thankful for promises kept.
I love when a person tells me they
are going to do something – and they do it! Like when a friend says they will
meet me for lunch at a specific time and they are there on time ~ or when
someone tells me they are going to pray for me and they do ~ or when my kids
tell me they are going to clean up their room and it looks spotless ~ or when
my piano students promise they will practice and I know they have because of an
improvement in their piece. There is a sense of being loved and respected when
the other person fulfills their promise.
I have watched people for a lot of
years and have witnessed many promises made and broken. But I have also been
privileged to watch promises that have been kept – like Ken & Sherril Pope (my
parents), Paul & Elynor Depue (Tim’s parents), Phil & Mary Jayne Bradt
(good friends and mentors). Each of these couples made a promise to love each
other and to be there “for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness
and in health”. And here they are, 50+
and 60+ years later, and they are still keeping those promises.
Even better than that, though, I have
been on the receiving end of some promises made Jesus! In John 10:28, Jesus gives
a promise to anyone who wants to be made right with a righteous, holy God by
accepting that salvation comes through the death and resurrection of His Son.
He says:
“I give them eternal life
and they shall never perish:
no one will snatch them out of
My hand.”
How incredible!! This promise is
available for anyone who asks. And we can be confident of these promises because
the One who promised ~ Jesus ~ is faithful and true!
So ready for one more promise to
keep you going on this Wednesday? This one hasn’t happened yet – but because
the One who promised is faithful and true, I know it will happen!
“I will come back and take you
to be with me”
John 13:3
