Yesterday
was Father’s Day – a day set aside to say thank you to our dads for all the
hard work they do and the leadership they provide for our families. With 4
grown children it took a little doing to get everyone together – but it was well
worth the effort.
Tim and I actually enjoyed lunch out…
just the two of us. Afterwards we came home and took a nap. (Guess we’ll just
put that up to some crazy schedules that have caught up with us…)
Late afternoon everyone was finished
with whatever responsibilities they had and we decided what kind of pizza we
wanted to order. While we waited for the pizza man to deliver our supper, we
gathered around the piano and sang. What an amazing time praising our Heavenly
Father!
As we ate, we played some games. I
don’t know about your family, but when ours get together there is bound to be
moments of intense competition while we play and strategize! Then, there are
moments when we are all laughing so hard, the tears are streaming down our
faces and we are clutching our sides because it hurts! That is exactly what
last night was all about!
I have loved every age our children
have been. I absolutely loved being pregnant and having babies to hold and
cuddle. When they turned to toddlers and had that age of discovery, I was right
there enjoying every moment. Thankfully we had older, wiser friends who told us
that the teen years could be a wonderful era in our lives – and they truly
were!
I thought, though, that once they
were adults, I would really miss having little children around… but this
relating to 4 adults in various stages of life has been wonderful, too. I love
hearing their insights and questions. I love the zeal they demonstrate. I am
proud of the tenacity they have about their faith.
And part of why these precious
grown-ups are the way they are is because of the incredible father they were
blessed with! Tim has been a wonderful example of a Dad who has taken the time
to be in his children’s lives, purposed to train them to love God with all
their hearts, and shows his love and respect for them in many ways! And that
started from before they were born! It continued during the days of seminary –
when he would leave early for a full morning of classes, come home to eat a
quick lunch, and rush out the door to a full time job from which it was usually
midnight when he got home. Through these years of being in the ministry, Tim
has continued to juggle responsibilities at church and home – and has done it
well! I am SO thankful to be married to a man of such integrity and purpose!
His family rises to call him blessed!
